About Me!
Bake It - The One Woman Show
Hey friends! I am Grace, the sole owner and operator behind Bake It. This business started out as a pipe dream, just a photo on a dream board. I talked about it for weeks until my friends and family encouraged me to take the leap and start working on it. I'm so grateful for those people, because without them, this photo would still be on my dream board instead of in my kitchen.

My Story
I come from a very small town in Rural Nova Scotia, surrounded by the ocean. I grew up with my mom and three siblings, who still live across the country. Hey Family- I miss you! Being the youngest, I grew up basically having three extra parents, which I am so lucky to have had. They taught me everything I know, gave me support when I needed it, and have never stopped cheering me on from the East Coast. I watched my mom work harder than anyone I'd ever known, and it's because of her I can make my dreams a reality. To this day, she is still the most compassionate and selfless woman despite every hardship she has faced. Love you momma, I am me because of you.
I had always loved to bake with my mom and sister, then my nieces once they weren't drawn to eating the flour. I started working in a kitchen when I was freshly 16, in a beautiful bakery called ARCH&PO. I attribute most, if not all of my culinary successes to the people that took me in at this bakery. I tasted flavors I had no idea existed and made food I still can't pronounce. Since then, I have searched for a piece of that bakery in every job I work. Restaurants, Cafes, more Bakeries, they all lacked the wow factor that was uniqueness. I tried out culinary school, but didn't end up pursuing it for the lack of creativity it held. Yes, I can chop a shallot fast, but what tastes good with thyme and lavender?
Fast forward a little bit, I moved to Red Deer with the most amazing group of people, one of which stole my heart. These people are my biggest supporters, even if they only show it by eating my food and telling me "it's good." Tough crowd. Nonetheless, they let me spend my time in the kitchen and never refuse to try a new recipe. Thank you boys, you're all pretty great.
Here we are, starting a home based business in this new place, new house, and with nothing more than a dream and strict cottage food rules. If I'm not baking or cooking, I'm reading a romance book or watching a 2000's romcom, one of the good ones, I promise.
Since being in Red Deer, I've worked for many great people, all of which have given me more motivation to do this. I've worked through the good and the bad, all of which has taught me to accept failure and try harder. While I'm still searching for that wow factor, I figure I can try and create it myself. I will always be the kid who put weird ingredients together and loved the outcome, now I hope I can make Red Deer love it too.
My goal is to take this tiny little side hustle and bring it to a commercial kitchen. I can see myself in my own cafe surrounded by amazing people and weird flavors. Until then, I work out of my own kitchen, all of my utensils are pink, I eat half of the chocolate chips I buy and I'm saving up for a Kitchenaid!
